Cafe Jello 2011

Studio & architectural glass art from David Mitchell
David is based near the University town of Cambridge. On this and the following pages are examples of his work both figurative and abstract along with images of pieces he has made to commission.

About

David has worked as a professional artist and designer for approximately 29 years with many years working for architcture and design practices in London before concentrating on fine art and glass.
Intrigued by abstract design which David says is 'deceptively difficult' David is determined not to simply treat glass as an illuminated panel onto which decoration can be applied but to use the 3-dimensional qualities of the material. However in parrallel with his abstract work he continues to explore the human form through the medium of glass from the powerful athletic poses of his cycling images, to still life portraits. His use of glass often aims to create different perspectives, turning the glass on edge so that images or text are refracted through the thickness of the material, thereby magnifying optical distortions.

His work was exhibited at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2007 and includes a number of commissions for architectural glass.

David also represents and exhibits the work of other glass artists, as the Cafe Jello Gallery through various exhibitions. Information on other artists is included in the following pages.
