Artist: Fi Kilpatrick
Fi Kilpatrick specialised in glass whilst at college before setting up her first
glass studio in London in 1988. She now lives and works in Cornwall where she has a studio/workshop and teaches glass and
mosaic design throughout the West Country.
Like many Cornish artists her work is heavily influenced by the environment in which she lives,
from the natural light to the scenery and ever changing colours of the sea and landscapes. She produces work
to commision including, wall panels, windows, furniture and now exhibits in a number of galleries in the UK.
An important and hugely experienced glass artist George began initially as a painter but swiftly moved
to ceramics before later working in glass. His preferred method of glass working is Pate de verre in which he is able to utilise his skills as
a ceramist to create works initially in clay before casting in glass and adding metal objects as inclusions which fuse
with the glass. His work is very three dimensional, including wall panels which often incorporate figures and is unusual but
evocative of something ancient and tribal. His work is shown here photgraphed by Simon Bruntnell.
David studied at Cambridge College of Art & Design,
Bournemouth and Poole College of Art & Design and Central St.Martins in London. David is determined not to simply treat glass as an illuminated panel onto which decoration can be applied
but to use the 3-dimensional qualities of the material. His use of glass aims to create different perspectives,
turning the glass on edge so that images or text are refracted through the thickness of the material, thereby magnifying
optical distortions. His work has most recently been exhibited at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and includes a number
of commissions for architectural glass.
Artist: Joanne Mitchell
Joanne Mitchell gained first-class honours in Three-Dimensional design at Manchester Metropolitan University, specialising in Hot Glass and Metalwork, and went on to win a Masters Degree scholarship in Glass Product Design with the University of Wolverhampton. She then worked as an in-house designer for the Edinburgh Crystal and Thomas Webb brands and in 2003 she relocated to her native North East to set up her own glass company. Joanne’s work ranges from exclusive handcrafted vessels to one-off sculptural works that combine hot, kiln formed and extensively cold-worked glass. She is a renowned and highly active glass worker and designer and her work has been shown at prestigious exhibitions such as ‘Collect’ at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Glass Biennale, and ‘Exhibition’ at FIFA 100, Royal Academy of Arts, London, and is represented in many prominent galleries throughout the UK.
